I bought a Maytag Atlantis washer model #MAV8551AWQ in 2004 it has been nothing but trouble. Constant repairs, peace of Junk that should be recalled! Ate up the belt, black soot came out from underneath. two valves. two switches, two water pumps replaced. Motor replaced. Would not spin. loud noise when washing and spinning. Twists and tears clothes. Leaves clothes wet after it is done. Is there a class action Lawsuit against this model? I know there was one for the Neptune washer. I also bought an Atlantis dryer Model #MDE6400AYQ it smells like a burning smell. Had a repair man look at it he claimed there was nothing wrong. Now it is starting to catch my clothes in the inside rim and tear my clothes!

I ditto Lis's experience to a "T" on the washer. Washer would last more than 9 years. Dryer is perfect condition.

I bought a new Maytag Atlantis washer & dryer (top-of-the-line models) from Best Buy mid-May 2003. About 3-4 yrs later, the dryer started having problems.

I had to "angle" the *** to get it to start, which later became jamming a plastic letter opener behind the *** to help "angle" it more, to finally having the console replaced. The repairman remarked that this was unusual - the Atlantis washers are the problem, not the dryers. About 2 yrs ago, the washer started occasionally making a high-pitched squeal at the end of the spin cycle (flashback to repairman's statement). After awhile, it became constant & the cycles weren't working right (extra rinse wouldn't spin, etc).

Replaced the console on the washer which fixed the cycle/spin problems but still had the squeal. A couple months ago, while washing a king comforter (the MAIN reason I chose this particular washer), it wouldn't drop the fabric softener or spin. Although it drained the water, the comforter was sopping wet. No, it was not out-of-balance (been washing the same king comforters in this machine for 7+ yrs), tried the other spin cycle, etc., nothing worked.

Took the comforter out & ran a small test load of clothes - fine. Ran 2 more regular loads of clothes - fine. Tried the comforter again - fine. Ok, so maybe it was a fluke.

A couple weeks later, it became extremely loud throughout the entire spin cycle - no more squeal at the end, this is more of a "cleared for take-off" loud (actually sounds like a plane winding up). These machines are almost 8 yrs old now so I looked up the washer's "symptoms" and found it's a problem w/the drive which is a $4-500 fix. SCREW THAT, MAYTAG! I've babied these machines from day one (they look brand new, I buy special cleaners to clean them - inside & out, I vacuum the dryer, etc.) & I'm not putting any more time, effort or money into them - I'm done!

I have had it w/Maytag & Whirlpool (also have issues w/Whirlpool fridge & dishwasher that were well taken care of, too). Used to be, you could buy a Maytag or Whirpool appliance & you'd be proud of how well they worked & how long they lasted - now they are just junk. I forgot to mention - the washer is very hard on clothes, towels, sheets - I have always had to wash one level below, i.e., wash cotton on permanent press, wash permanent press on delicate, et al. I decided to do some research before the washer gave out so I would know what to buy rather than be panicked.

After doing my research, I decided not to wait on the *** thing to die so I'm anticipating delivery of my new LG ultra capacity, high efficiency set on Friday. Can't wait to see them haul that Maytag Atlantis *** out of my house - good riddance!

Sorry 11M but you are way off the mark here. This washer is a piece of junk.

It had a recall on it when I brought it home from the store. Maytag dispatched someone immediately and they told me of the recall, but said a fix hadn't been created yet. 3 months later they FINALLY had a fix. Worked ok for a few years then started being unbalanced again even with very small loads.

Had similar experiences with my MAytag diswashwer.

I bought Maytag because of the name. Never again.

Reply to 11M, go buy a good washer with a warranty? I bought a NEW MAYTAG. Should have returned it immediately.

I had Maytag washer and dryer for 17 years running perfect.

2003 I bought Maytag Atlantis washer and dryer. What a junk!

Perhaps the problem is you either abuse your machine or you are a miserable person and only want something for nothing.

Inquiring about a class action law suit over a machine you've had a while raises a red flag about you.

What's the problem... you don't have money?! Go buy a good used washer with a warranty for cheap and quit your ***!ing.
